I posted a picture on facebook of my new feather hair extensions recently and got a lot of positive feedback as well as people telling me in person that they like the look. Most people have been asking me where I got it done. I've suggested the salon, but since it was a little expensive for most people's wallets, I looked at a little youtube video and discovered that it's super easy.
Here's the look:
So, I'm going to spread the plumage. I ordered a little kit from ebay. I will be happy to put these extensions in anyone's hair that would like it for a small fee.
I ordered some natural looking feathers. There are colored feathers out there, too. I guess if you have certain feathers you want to put in, you can order them yourself then I can do it. We'll see how it goes.

day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty
There is not a day in this challenge for a sexy song, so I'll put this here. I can't listen to this in public because it's sort of risqué. It's really hot though. I guess this makes me feel guilty because I can be a bit prudish on the subject of sex.
Also, I love that Michael Franti and Spearhead is popular, but before he had "i love you" and all those poppy songs, he sang about politics, sex, and drugs. So for anyone that wants to check out an AWESOME album...Check out Stay Human!

day 27 - a song that you wish you could play
Ever since my failed attempt at the guitar I can't say that I have had the desire to learn to play any more instruments. So I guess I will pay homage to an artist I haven't recognized yet in my 30 day song challenge. Jason Mraz. Before he got all big and popular with a top 40 hit, he was touring with Jewel (2nd day in a row I'm mentioning her.) I saw him open up for her and just fell in love with his voice. It is so smooth and lovely. I immensely enjoyed his 1st album, I didn't listen to his 2nd album, and then found that I loved him again with his 3rd album. Here is a lesser known song by Jason, not any of his studio albums. It makes me melt. And I guess if I wanted to I would try to learn to play it, it seems pretty simple; more importantly I wish I had a voice as nice as his.

day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument
I once tried to learn to play guitar. My dad even bought me one. I had high hopes of learning every Jewel song because I loved her at the time (before she sold out.) I took my lessons with a guy named Woody Allen. I'm not sure I could play this anymore, but this is the one bass line I learned on my guitar that actually resembled the song. I gave up on learning guitar but I still have it and now Matt likes to use it at parties and when he is in a musical mood.

day 24 - a song that you want to play at your funeral
What a lovely message, instead of having your name on your tombstone, have "Love" written on it. I like that concept. But I want to be cremated so I guess write it on my urn?

day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding
There is just something about this song that makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I'm not sure if it will be the song for the first dance, but I know I want this song and some others played at my wedding.

day 22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad
I listen to this song to cheer myself up. First, because it's so darn cute. And Second, because when I hear it I think of how I posted the lyrics and my friend said, how would you teach sweaters how to dance?

day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry
When listening to this on the radio, I can't remember if it was Matt or me or Natasha that came up with new lyrics "you just don't get it, Matt's a diabetic, you keep on forgetting, he's a f***ing diabetic" This is fun to sing in an angry voice to someone that doesn't get diabetes.

day 19 - a song from your favorite album
This is my favorite album because it perfectly highlights each of the Beatles talents. It's the kind of album that you listen to all the way through because all the songs sort of go into the next one.
For anyone who ever thought the beatles couldn't rock, this song proves that wrong. Trivia to Beatles fans: who says "i got blisters on my fingers" at the end?

day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio
This song is blowing up right now. I hear it on every radio station: college, alternative, pop, I've even heard it in dj mixes for clubs...It doesn't matter, everyone seems to love this song. It is a really great song. Adele is a powerful singer and the whole album "21" is excellent. So even though I hear it on the radio often, I don't really mind and I allow myself to listen to it in its entirety at least once a day and belt it out like I have a great voice (which I don't.)

day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate
I can't say I hate this song, but I'm certainly sick of it. I have heard it about a thousand times. It should bring about good memories because they used it on the dvd they made for Semester at Sea. It's a good song, I just don't care to listen to it much anymore.

day 15 - a song that describes you
This needs to be a mantra for me, that I won't let the minature disasters get the best of me. I think this song perfectly describes how I can be. Because KT Tunstall is a Cancer like me, we may be alike which is why she wrote a song that I can identify with. I identify with a lot of her other music, too.

day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
At Lollapalooza in '08 I proudly threw up my "diamond" (putting your hand fingertip to fingertip and thumb to thumb) when Kanye played this song. I actually really like the whole album Late Registration.

day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
I showed this to my sister and now when we're together we rock out singing "boom boom boom shine brighter than the moon moon moon!" Here are the kids from PS 22 singing it, because they make it sound awesome and almost not like a guilty pleasure.

day 12 - a song from a band you hate
Any song by Chris Brown. I won't even give him the recognition of posting a video of him. I wish that society didn't give people like him and Charlie Sheen the time of day. These guys get glorified and THEY BEAT WOMEN!! Chris Brown disgusts me. And the stunt he pulled at Good Morning America, breaking a window...what a BABY throwing a tantrum. I really hope that he goes away, like yesterday.

day 11 - a song from your favorite band
It's so hard to choose! My fave band of the moment is Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. I just saw them in March at Boston House of Blues. They killed their set! I have to admit, I have a big girl crush on Grace.

day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
I can't really fall asleep to music, but this song makes me think of going to sleep in CA which is a nice place to sleep.

day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
It's better when you sing it Fuck You and at the top of your lungs.

day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event
In high school we liked to go to the Square One Mall when we had extra money and a free Saturday because it had and H&M that we didn't have in NH. One particular Saturday the roads were wet and we were heading toward the tolls when the car in front of us stopped unexpectedly. Our driver hit the brake and avoided the car in front of us. In doing so, our car spun around so that we were 180 degrees, completely turned around so that we were faced the other way of incoming traffic. This was around the time that we were graduating high school so our friend had made a "friends forever" mix cd. When we righted ourselves in the car and we all got our bearings, the song playing was "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel. It was perfect. We all breathed a sigh of relief and started laughing at the song because we were saved! It was an event that we will look back at in exaggeration since one friend says it we turned 560 degrees and it was pouring rain. Neither of which are true.
So every time I hear this song it reminds me of the time we survived and avoided and accident.

day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere
On a train in India while on Semester at Sea, one of the fellow students pulled out his ipod with speakers and aptly played this song. (I apologize to Indians and the country India, but it really did smell.) What made this hilarious is that there were a bunch of American kids singing this song, while all the Indians on the train had no idea what was so funny.

day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
Matt and I don't agree on much music. While he's listening to Pantera, I want to rock out to Ingrid Michaelson. However, The Flaming Lips are a band we can agree on. Whenever I think of this song I think of Matt because he once told me how much he liked it but couldn't remember the name Yoshimi, just that it was about a robot. As in "I like that song, you know the one about the robot." I think you can interpret this song as a love song.
I love that I can say to Matt "you won't let those robots eat me" and he knows exactly what I'm talking about.

Self Care Tips - Balls
I'm going to use this blog as a forum to share some tips for self care for those of you that might not have the means to get massaged all the time. Here are a couple favorites that are super easy to do and you can use pretty common household stuff:
- Tennis ball back massage - Take two tennis balls and put them in a sock (a dress sock works best), tie the sock in a knot at the end, then put it against a wall and roll up against it. Do not roll the balls directly on your spine, just on either side of the spine. Also works great for applying pressure to those stubborn knots in your back. (I had made one of these but my dog stole the tennis balls)
- Golf balls for your feet - Just roll the golf balls on the soles of your feet. You can also stand up and apply pressure by standing on one golf ball against the arch of your foot.
Now go get the ball rolling (oh man that was an awful pun.)
day 04 - a song that makes you sad
This song, I believe, is about a couple that's having a rough time in their relationship. He wants to talk, but it feels like they might not make it. There is not much lower they can go. It's sad to get to that point in a relationship...and I'm glad that I have a really awesome relationship with a great guy (more on that with tomorrow's song)
This is a sort of brilliant concept for a video.

day 03 - a song that makes you happy
So, Donovan loved his clothes enough that he wrote a song about it. We can all relate to that! Also, can we please bring back the word flash? As in "Do you have some shoes that you really love, Ones that you feel so flash in?"
This song never fails to put a smile on my face because it's so silly. "I love my shirt" Donovan.

day 02 - your least favorite song
Shudder....This video scares the crap out of me and by association, I hate the song. From when I was little watching MTV with my big brother whenever this video came on I would get wicked scared and then he would tease me. I'm posting this, but I am NOT watching it. Just the thought of this video gives me the creeps.

30 Day Song Challenge - day 01 - your favorite song
I saw this on Facebook so I thought I would give it a try. At least I can post music and that will be fun.
Day 1: Your favorite Song
Oh this is so tough. How do you name just one favorite? I'll go with an old favorite that can always put me in my happy place and one that I usually play on the first day of spring (I forgot this year.) You can't go wrong with The Beatles. Here's the late, great, my favorite Beatle George Harrison doing "Here Comes the Sun"

First Impressions - First Massage
Our teacher wants us to write our first impressions after giving and receiving our very first massages in class. So I figure I'll write it here and then be able to look back on it 10 weeks from now when I am able to give a full body massage.

These Girls Singing Amaze Me and Make Me Happy
Love love love Adele and I just can't believe a 10 year old can belt it like this:
If you don't think this is adorable, there is something wrong with you:
I find it so funny that these little girls are singing from the heart about love and breaking up when they are far from experiencing it. Regardless, they are so frickin awesome.
Tact & Tactlessness while Grieving
I was reading this post from the hairpin and it got me thinking about the losses I have been through this year. I lost not one but both of my Grandmothers in the span of two months. I haven't lost many people that were close to me in my life so the grieving process is fairly new to me. Part of grieving is how other people treat you, give you sympathy, or care for you when you can't. My process had been relatively smooth and I owe it to a few people that really stepped in and made things comfortable for me.

Back to School
I'll admit, I'm no good at blogging. Sometimes I get on these tracks of thought when I think I could blog better than other people I see on the internet. I have so many deep, original ideas, damnit! But then I forget to blog that one awesome thought and I don't blog again for 6 months. So here I go again, thinking I have something important to say.
